Housemaster and PE teacher, Ian Parkin has worked here for 14 years. Ian is well versed in what life is like at Worksop College and Ranby House, and has previously been Head of Cricket and Director of Sport.
Up to the age of 23, I was involved with cricket full time. I played for England at Indoor Cricket, represented the ECB XI, British and England Universities, whilst trying to make my way in the game I played as a club professional in the Derbyshire Premier League.
After my time at Worcestershire, I felt that the dream of full time sport would probably not be a reality for me!
I carried on playing as a semi-professional and went back to Loughborough (where I also did my undergraduate studies) to complete my teaching qualification in PE. As my now wife, Caroline said at the time 'the only thing you know anything about is cricket and coaching, so you had better do that!' I joined Worksop College as Director of Cricket in 2003 and I have been here in different guises ever since.
Ours is a school that accepts people of all abilities, backgrounds and situations, and tries to help them find their niche and make the most of their abilities.
Pupils are encouraged in to a rich breadth of academic and extra-curricular activities, which gives them the opportunities to test themselves, and improve and develop important life skills for the next stage.
The culture here is one of togetherness and community.
I have lived on site for 13 years, and my wife and two children are all part of that community. This is especially true of living in a Boarding House - there is no escape!"
