Last weekend, Worksop College welcomed families from across the globe during our annual International Welcome Weekend. The event, which has become a cornerstone of the school’s community calendar, saw new pupils from five different countries arriving to begin their journey at the college.
The weekend was designed to help international pupils and their families settle into life at Worksop, offering a blend of informative sessions, traditional British dining, and opportunities to connect with key staff and fellow families.
The day began with tours, during which families were guided around our historic grounds, as well as being shown their new houses and bedrooms. Pupils were introduced to their timetables and received an introduction to life as a boarder. In a presentation, David, a student from Bulgaria, shared his own experiences as an international boarder at Worksop College, offering tips and advice to the newcomers.
A traditional British afternoon tea followed, complete with scones, Victoria sponge cake, finger sandwiches, and plenty of tea—offering a taste of British culture. While the new pupils unpacked and settled into their boarding houses, parents enjoyed a prosecco drinks reception at the Crown Hotel, where they were served canapés and had a chance to chat to other families.
The highlight of the weekend was a formal three-course dinner held in the college’s Great Hall. This provided an opportunity for the new families to meet key members of the school staff in a welcoming setting.
The International Welcome Weekend, a long-standing tradition at Worksop College, plays a vital role in helping international families feel at home in the UK. Many of the families had only communicated with the school via email until this point, and the weekend provided the perfect opportunity for face-to-face introductions.
Worksop College’s International Transition programme is designed to ensure that pupils and their families have the support they need as they adjust to life at the school.
