On the 21st June 2021, Worksop College was thrilled to host the Independent Schools Association Golf Championships for the very first time.
The competition consisted of eight schools and twenty-five students from across England, who competed on College Pines Golf Course. The course was playing difficult due to the fast growing conditions of late. To further the challenge, the weather took a turn during the second half of the round as it began to rain.
Despite the adverse conditions, Worksop College’s own, Reuben Tennant, managed to shoot just one over par gross and 42 points. This made him the ISA Champion Golfer 2021; an excellent achievement for Worksop College. He completed his opening 9 holes with 2 birdies, which saw him complete the turn in 1 under par.
It is imperative that Reuben is given the credit he deserves, as he hung on the back 9 with a score of 2 over, but the conditions and score calls for so much more recognition than that. Reuben’s accuracy off the tee undoubtedly saved him a number of shots on the field, as the long wet grass was punishing.
Mr Cook, Director of Golf at Worksop College, stated ‘we are extremely pleased with Reuben’s performance, despite the challenges put forward by the less than ideal conditions. His potential is extremely promising.’
‘All competitors represented their school exceptionally, while managing to keep smiling through the rain’, he continued, ‘it was a pleasure to host such a monumental event on our grounds.’
To round up a truly positive day, Worksop College also went on to win the Team completion with counting scores from Reuben, Max Meggitt and Max Beahan. This is a wonderful success for Worksop College, and it promises exciting prospect for the future.
