This course will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the scientific aspects of food science and nutrition and the wider implications of diet on our health and well-being. You will learn how to plan to meet nutritional needs, to develop practical food production skills, and to ensure food is safe to eat. You will also learn how to solve food production problems through experimental approaches, and about current issues in consumer food choice.

Using nutritional theory to support practical activities, you will research the latest information and apply that theory to solve realistic dietary and food safety issues.

With a combination of theory and practical lessons, you’ll work in our fully-equipped Food and Nutrition centre, in addition to computer-based work in our ICT suite, and on a variety of field study trips.

This subject is for you:
if you enjoy a ‘hands-on’, practical approach, and working independently. You will have an analytical attitude to learning and will enjoy applying theory to real-life situations. You will be excited by knowing your work could make a difference to people - and you may be considering a career in Nutrition, Health, Hospitality, Catering, Food Production or Food Retail.
